Cliente: WWF
Geonoma, under the project “Long term Conservation of the Atlantic Forest in Northeast Brazil: Murici-Urubu Landscape” carried out by WWF-Brazil, was hired to develop two studies.
Initially, the analysis of market opportunities and economic balances of land use activities was carried out aiming at the sustainability of the Serra do Urubu-Murici Landscape with BRL Parcerias. At this stage, secondary data collection of the study region, primary data collection, meetings and interviews with farmers, entrepreneurs and other local actors, promotion and elaboration of a Workshop (online event) with local actors and economic modeling of production alternatives were carried out.
In a second stage, the intention was to strengthen two sustainable activities identified as more promising for the landscape, with the objectives of generating income and contributing to the conservation of the remnants of the Atlantic Forest, the honey chain and sustainable agricultural production. At this stage, conversations were held with other teams involved in the project and local actors, with field trips and exchanges with local producers, in this way it was possible to identify the strengths of each region and activity and those that can be worked on more in order to strengthen the activities.
