In 2019, Geonoma was responsible for the flora and vegetation section of a large and complex project, headed by the Ipê Institute (Institute of Ecological Research) and carried out in the Pontal do Paranapanema region, in the countryside of São Paulo.

The main objective of this project was to carry out a connectivity plan between the forest remnants of the Atlantic Semideciduous Forest of Paulista Eastside through the creation of a large ecological corridor that could interconnect them through the creation of Conservation Units (CU).

Geonoma team prepared a list of species that occur in the region, analyzed studies to point out gaps in the knowledge about the local flora, and made a detailed description of the vegetation in the study area.

This information made it possible to evaluate the forest fragments to delineate which ones would have the greatest potential to become Conservation Units.

One of the remnants with the greatest potential for this is “Mata Maturi”, a native forest is in the city of Presidente Epitácio that encompasses several Legal Reserves and is home to a relevant flora, including the presence of Apuleia leiocarpa (garapeira), an endangered species

Ares that could become Conservation Units for sustainable use were also surveyed and evaluated, that is, land that would allow some economic return for landowners and residents of the region, thus linking conservation with income generation
